Keeping Summer Memories

27 July

The summer months are a lovely enjoyable time. This season offers many people a once-in-a-lifetime chance to visit a thrilling, far-off, or tranquil destination. It's possible that you'll get to spend time with loved ones or perhaps enjoy a few days by yourself.

Whichever kind of summer trip you choose to take this year, don't forget to bring along a travel diary to document all those amazing adventures.

To get the most out of your trip journal, follow these suggestions:

1. Select a blank diary, journal, or notebook with a design that is appealing.

Choose a journal that fits your style, whether it be a plain color cover, a cloth-covered book with a whimsical print on the front, or something in between. You'll probably discover a large selection at your neighborhood bookshop.

  • What will suit you the most? Prior to your vacation, choose where and how you will carry your journal. You might prefer one with full-size pages if writing is your hobby. However, you might be more content with one that tucks into your jacket pocket or purse. You can make notes and complete the details at a later time.
  • Size matters when buying a trip journal, so keep that in mind. Weight may also be an issue when traveling, depending on where and how you go.

2. What would you like to journal about?

You could believe that you won't ever forget a minute of your trip because traveling is typically such a departure from your daily routine. But you won't recall many of the specifics in a few years.
You might wish to write down these specifics in your journal:

  • All available date information, including the year
  • You traveled to both a city and a country.
  • Where you stayed: suite numbers and names and addresses of people's houses or motels
  • Places you'd hoped to visit and will hopefully get to see the next time
  • Describe the unusual dishes you've tried, along with the location where you had them.
  • Sounds, sights, and fragrances when strolling down the road
  • Individuals you encountered
  • What kind of souvenirs did you buy for yourself and your loved ones, and how did you go around the city—public or private transportation?
  • You'll be happy you penned amusing asides like, "The bed in the Smith Hotel was so lumpy, but I was exhausted and slept like a log" after reading them.
  • Above all, journal your thoughts about your summer travel experiences; this will enable you to more easily remember the special moments from your trip.

3. Record your travel experiences whenever you get the chance.

Take notes every day. Compared to notes taken at the end of the week, those taken just after an event are typically more detailed, factual, and comprehensive.

  • Take out your journal and pen and write about your day's experiences thus far whether you're riding the bus or taking a cab.
  • Should you be artistic, you may draw a drawing or two of the places you've visited.
  • Make a note of details from the previous evening over breakfast. or describe your plans for that particular day.
  • It could be more convenient for you to write your notes once you return to the hotel for the night.

4. Gather souvenirs, or simple pamphlets and posters while on vacation.

They can assist you in completing the details of your encounters.
  • For instance, you may already be unable to recall the name of the eatery where you had those delectable sandwiches for lunch. However, you can consult the restaurant's brochure or receipt if you happened to save it and need the information later.
  • Take a brochure that lists the stores and displays the floor plan the next time you go shopping so you can use it to write in your notebook about what you did that day.
  • When you get back, these flyers can also help you assemble a scrapbook.

Preserving your priceless summertime experiences in writing will last a lifetime. You will revisit it repeatedly in order to rediscover the unique experiences you had. And when your kids read these first-hand stories of your travels, they'll be ecstatic.

This summer, try keeping a trip notebook to capture as much as possible of your adventures!
