Declutter Your Home With These Easy Steps

17 February

Home organization and de-cluttering may commonly become daunting and distressing. If you're hesitant to begin because it seems like there's so much to, try completing less things simultaneously. When you clean and arrange your home in simple steps, it is easier to complete the task that way.

Divide Things Up

Concentrate on one room at a time. It will make the work seem somewhat less stressful. Do not go to the next room until you have finished the current one.

Try these tips for organizing and de-cluttering your home in small steps:

1. Pick 1 room to start. Choose a room that can be cleaned in a day rather than the most difficult or the biggest one in the house. After you've decided which room to clean and de-clutter, begin as early as possible to maximize your daylight hours.

2. Basic sorting. Examine all of the stuff in your room and remove anything you no longer desire. Everything you touch in the room should be sorted into one of four categories: items to be discarded, items to be donated or sold, items that should remain where they are, and items you wish to keep but are in the incorrect place. Apply this idea of classification to every item in the room. You should have four unique heaps or locations in the room when you are done. Every object in the room will be sorted into one of four heaps.

3. Eliminate trash. Just removing all the "disposable" items from the space will have a significant impact. Remember that personal documents should be destroyed rather than discarded in the trash.

4. Move donation items. Next, remove anything you intend to sell, give away, or donate. Place these goods somewhere in the house or in your car, for the time being. Continue to add items from each area of your home to this section until you are prepared to drop off the donations, or when you're ready to have a yard sale.

5. Sort the "Belongs Elsewhere" section. If you merely move these objects to another room, you will have to organize them again. Construct a box or container for every room containing those things. Ensure that you want to keep them so that you may place them in the appropriate location without having to sort them again later.

6. Organize the remainder. After removing enormous amounts of "junk" from your room, you may now organize the all of the items left. When you're simply dealing with the items that belong in the space, de-cluttering and organizing them becomes significantly easier.

7. Repeat this process. Repeat steps 1 through 6 for each room in the house until the entire home has been cleaned. When you tackle one area at a time, the process is far less complicated and difficult.

Take a few minutes each day to make sure that everything you've used during the day is returned to its proper location, so you can continue to enjoy your "new" clutter-free home. After all, there's a place for everything, and everything should be in it's place. You may need to de-clutter and re-organize your entire home seasonally or yearly. But remember, large chores might appear daunting. Divide your tasks into smaller chunks, and your home will be clean and tidy in no time!
